The Truth About Leadership?

Leadership!

Do you in your everyday life find this is a word that is thrown around quite a bit? In Canada we talk about it all the time. We talk about our leaders, we talk about who does this and who does that and why they aren't fit to lead but we don't talk about what exactly leadership is all about! I ask you this, just because a politician gets elected into government does that make them a leader? Just because a person is the CEO of a company does that mean they have demonstrated great leadership skills?

I can't tell you the answer to that because I believe that is up for you to decide. But I can tell you what I feel leadership is and what it isn't. Being a great leader and demonstrating great leadership abilities does not involve being able to give orders and tell people what to do and many people believe that authority and leadership go hand in hand. The fact people need to recall is we have community leaders, people who speak up and make their voices heard and inspire others to do the same thing.

Isn't inspiration the key to being a great leader? Isn't the ability to inspire other people to be greater then they already are how we define leadership? Nelson Mandela once said “It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership.” How can you disagree with that? Being a great leader is inspiring others to be great and allowing them to celebrate in that greatness and when things fall apart protecting those people and jumping on the sword yourself.

What you may ask is the purpose of this blog, why am I discussing leadership? Well as well all know in Ontario the Provincial Elections will fall upon us in just a few months time and during that time I want people to remember what real leadership is and see who demonstrates that. I want people to look for those in their community and area that are an inspiration and recognize those contributions. Most of all I want you to remember that every single person in this world is born great, they are born a leader, and with the will you can raise to heights you never dreamed possible and lead the charge to changing anything you want for the better!

Until Next Time
